Dental Emergency FAQs
Teeth that have been forcibly removed through trauma are typically accompanied by excessive bleeding. First, put a compress where the missing tooth is to reduce the bleeding. Next, if possible, find the missing tooth and keep it safe by placing it in a glass of milk or wrapping it in a damp cloth. Call our emergency number to schedule an appointment at the earliest convenience because a tooth relaced within an hour of being knocked out has optimal chance of reintegration.
- Abcesses can appear like a small bump along the gumline around the root of a tooth or even the space between the teeth and gums. Abscesses can be very painful and can lead to several different health issues if left untreated. It’s important to make an appointment with us as soon as possible so our pediatric dentist can assess the abscess and determine how to treat it.
It’s not uncommon for children to have some sensitivity to very hot or very cold substances. However, it is important to note that increased or increasing sensitivity should be a cause for concern. It could mean that your child is experiencing a side effect to an injured tooth or even a cavity. If you notice your childs tooth sensitivity increasing shcedule an emergency appointment with us.
A broken, damaged, or chipped tooth can be a cause for major concern. It’s important to remove any pieces of the tooth from the mouth to avoid choking on them. Collect large pieces of the tooth and set them aside. Avoid eating and drinking to prevent any further damage to the tooth and call us to schedule an emergency dental appointment.
A toothache can be caused by a number of factors. It could be something as minimal as a piece of food being stuck in the tooth or in the gums between teeth. We recommend having your child rinse their mouth out, and then floss around that tooth. Once done take a look to see if you see anything out of place. If you don’t and your child is still complaining of a toothache schedule an emergency appointment to determine the cause of the toothache.
